Classic chiffon sarees

Chiffon is a sheer, featherlight fabric with a faint grain that falls in soft folds. It is the fabric for evenings: the pleats sit narrow and the pallu floats, so a chiffon saree flatters without adding bulk. Ours weigh about 250 grams for 5.5 metres and come with a blouse piece.

This edit is small on purpose. Four sarees, in black, pink, red and royal blue, carry hand work across the body and pallu, at ₹1,397. The fifth is magenta finished in mukaish, a Lucknowi technique where thin metal wire is threaded through the cloth and twisted into tiny glinting dots, at ₹1,797.

Want more chiffon? All 17 of our leheriya and bandhej sarees are hand-dyed chiffon too.

Care

Dry clean only. Don't wring it or hang it in direct sun, and iron on low heat with a cloth in between.

Chiffon saree questions

Is a chiffon saree good for parties?

Yes. Chiffon is light and sheer, so it drapes narrow and moves well, and it carries hand work, mukaish or sequins without getting heavy. It is one of the easiest sarees to wear through a long evening.

How much does a chiffon saree cost?

Muralika's chiffon sarees cost ₹1,397 for hand work and ₹1,797 for mukaish work, each 5.5 metres with a blouse piece. Shipping is free across India and cash on delivery is available.

What is the difference between chiffon and georgette?

Georgette is heavier, less sheer and has a crinkled, crepe-like texture that gives it more body. Chiffon is lighter, more transparent and more delicate, so it falls in softer folds.

What is mukaish work?

Mukaish, also called badla, is an embellishment from Lucknow: thin strips of metal wire are threaded through the fabric and twisted by hand into small dots that catch the light.

How do I wash a chiffon saree?

Dry clean only. Don't wring it or dry it in direct sun, and iron on low heat with a cloth between the iron and the saree.
